Core benefits

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to define the university's policy and guidelines for providing insurance benefits to full-time employees of the university.

Policy

It is the policy of Lynn University to offer eligible employees the option to participate in the university's core benefit plans, such as health, dental, life insurance and retirement plan and education benefits. The monthly insurance premium costs associated with certain benefits are shared between the employee and the university during the months of active employment.

Please consult Employee Services and summary plan descriptions for further details regarding these benefits. Eligible employees must elect or decline benefits during the open enrollment period, or within thirty-one (31) days of employment at Lynn University. Once the employee has chosen benefits, the employee may not change that election for the rest of the plan year unless a special “life event” occurs. The university’s plan year is from January 1 through December 31. Enrollment is not automatic.

Claims and payments are determined and approved by the carriers according to the terms and conditions of each policy and plan document. In the event that there is a conflict between the descriptions available online and the policy/plan documents, the policy/plan documents govern.

Definitions

Eligible employees – employees who are full-time and meet any other criteria specified by benefit policy/plan documents.
