It has a nice ring to it—two-time Emmy award-winning producer. Sasha Mitchell-Fuller ’04 always had big dreams of making it big someday. Looks like she’s on her way.

A creative child who loved to write and entertain, it’s not surprising Mitchell-Fuller found her way into the entertainment field. After receiving her communications degree at Lynn University, she hit the road for the Big Apple to make her dreams come true.

After only a few months, she landed her first “real” job at the Montel Williams Show as a production assistant and later promoted to associate producer, and then as an associate producer at The Tyra Banks Show. Since 2013, she has been an associate producer and promoted to producer in 2015 at The Dr. Oz Show, with last year marking a huge milestone. In 2017, she earned an Emmy for “Outstanding Informative Talk Show.” And this year, she did it again.

“I always dreamt of winning an Emmy,” she said. At the ceremony last year she was “blown away” when she heard The Dr. Oz Show announced as the winner. “To be there is just amazing. It was an out-of-body experience. I was so emotional.”

Her experience at Lynn prepared her for the workforce and life in general. She loved living on campus and the relationships she formed with a diverse group of people, and the “booming communications department” that afforded her robust broadcasting classes and hands-on experiences.

“It made me look forward to working in the business,” she said.

“You have to become an expert in everything you do and get all the facts straight,” she said. “You have to be on top of your game, but I love seeing my ideas come to life. It makes it all worth it.”

And work it is. She catches a 5 a.m. train from her home in Long Island some mornings and doesn’t get home to see her children—ages 7, 5 and 7 months—until after the show wraps, well into the evening. Now that Season 9 has wrapped, she is on hiatus for a few months during which she goes into “full mommy mode.”

But she loves her role on The Dr. Oz Show. As segment producer she pitches ideas, researches, writes scripts, collaborates and coordinates with medical experts, chooses graphics, and more.

“You have to become an expert in everything you do and get all the facts straight,” she said. “You have to be on top of your game, but I love seeing my ideas come to life. It makes it all worth it.”

Mitchell-Fuller’s ultimate goal is to have her own talk show and be the next Oprah, or better yet, Oz, the talk show host she admires most.

“He’s really hands-on, gives a lot of input and is a perfectionist,” she said. “And it’s because he really cares. He wants to help people and impact their lives.”

After over a decade in the “biz,” she’s learned that hard work and determination will bring you to the top of the success ladder.

Her advice: “Never stop trying to outdo yourself. Make connections and network whenever possible, and don’t be discouraged if you don’t get your dream job right off the bat.”

Dreams are something Mitchell-Fuller knows something about. After all, she’s living hers.
