In collaboration with Watson Institute, a mission-driven program for young social entrepreneurs, Lynn's College of Business and Management offers a revolutionary B.S. in social impact and entrepreneurship program for the most promising next-generation innovators, leaders and changemakers.
As one of a select few Watson Scholars, you can be part of a powerful community of social entrepreneurs who will support you in solving the toughest challenges of our time.
Plus, you'll take courses in design thinking and data science, and gain a strong foundation in business strategy and leadership.
You'll have the opportunity to participate in:
- Watson mentor program: Get paired with a local entrepreneur, innovator and leader based on how well you align with their mission and expertise.
- Internship program: Get hands-on experience working in an organization where your missions align through three impact internship courses.
- Impact series teachers: Each week an impact series teacher shares their entrepreneurial journey and mentors you. Past leaders include Jerry White, a leader of Nobel Prize-winning International Campaign to Ban Landmines; Tom Chi, who helped invent Google Glass and the self-driving car; and Erin Schrode, the youngest person to run for U.S. Congress.

The data science curriculum is meant to provide students with a fluency in several areas of data science that are foundational to leading impactful, successful careers and becoming increasingly relevant as the future of work changes. Each sub topic within WSE 250, Impact Measurement, is broken down into skills and theory. The class is intended for all students to conduct a mini-practicum in which students apply the learning to a real-life, impact focused situation. This could be with a company or organization, their own venture, or a fellow student's venture. This class will go over critical topics such as impact measurement, data visualization, social return on investment, theory of change, qualitative data, data visualization and more.
Theory and practice of determining and implementing policy. Actual case studies of business organizations, including the determination of top-level company policy in such functional areas as finance, marketing and production are studied.
This course provides an overview of the functions and activities necessary for the creation and distribution of goods and services. It provides a survey and analysis of the quantitative tools and techniques used to make strategic and tactical decisions to increase productivity and drive down costs in all sectors. In addition, the course covers business modeling and analysis using Excel to drive competitive advantage. Topics include linear programming, forecasting, decision analysis, quality control, inventory management, JIT, predictive analytics, regression analysis, and data modeling. A strong emphasis is placed on using Excel to build analytical and decision-making skills.
