Inspire through education
Earn your early childhood education degree and learn the importance of early literacy development for infants and their families and young children up to third grade. As a student of this early learning program, you'll have internship opportunities to better help define professional goals. In this program, you'll learn early literacy development, and also learn innovative iPad techniques for instructional strategies and assessments.
As an early childhood education major, you'll combine theory with practical applications and understand both the physical and emotional development of babies, toddlers and preschoolers. While working with early learners, you'll observe different types of early learning communities—daycare centers, preschools, elementary schools and early learning centers. Plus, you'll network with key influencers and explore how to implement current technologies to supplement your future approach to teaching and learning.

Early childhood education degree information
The early childhood education program prepares you to teach students through grade three. You'll learn how to manage a classroom and you'll gain a firm introduction to childhood education. You will immerse yourself in the world of education and explore childhood development. Through your major courses, you'll learn:

- Child screenings, assessments and parental involvement strategies

Review of research based information on the identification and remediation of exceptional students in the general education classroom. Development of practical evidence based teaching strategies general educators need to respond effectively to exceptional students in general education classroom settings. Various teaching strategies including learning strategies, high leverage practices, universal design, direct instruction, cooperative learning, and peer tutoring as well as how to make appropriate accommodations and modifications will be examined. Five hours of field observations required.
This course is designed to provide teacher candidates with skills and competencies to improve instruction and learning through good classroom management by establishing a learning environment and instructional program that is well organized and efficient. Eight hours of field observation are required.
The information presented in this course introduces teacher candidates to a variety of children’s books and ipad apps which allows them to make knowledgeable decisions in the selection and use of these children's books as a result of studying, discussing and using genres of children’s literature in and outside the classroom setting. It prepares teacher candidates to integrate literature throughout the curriculum and helps them to collect and read an extensive selection of children’s literature for use in their future classrooms. Five hours of field observations are required.
